Mendis, Rathnayake shine as SL pound Oman: T20 World Cup No 16 (Pallekele)

Sri Lanka posted a massive 225/5 in their 20 overs, with Kusal Mendis (61) and Pavan Rathnayake (60) leading the charge, and went on to beat Oman who could manage 120/9 in their 20 overs, winning the 16th Match, Group B of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by 105 runs at Pallekele.

The hosts dominated from bat to ball — Oman’s Mohammad Nadeem top-scored with 53 not out in a losing cause — as Sri Lanka cemented their strong position in Group B with a convincing victory. 

Sri Lanka 225 for 5 (Mendis 61, Rathnayake 60, Shanaka 50, Ramanandi 2-41) beat Oman 120 for 9 (Mohammad Nadeem 53*, Theekshana 2-11, Chameera 2-19). Sri Lanka won by 105 runs.
