Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman blew away the Australian top order as Bangladesh won by five wickets to secure their first ODI series win over Australia at Mirpur.
Marnus Labuschagne (55 not out) and Xavier Bartlett (52) rescued Australia from a perilous 81-6. The Aussies were in all sorts, producing their worst ever start to an ODI innings when they lost three wickets before getting off the mark with Matt Short, Cooper Connolly and Matt Renshaw all gone for ducks.
Chasing a revised target of 192 after a rain delay, Bangladesh recovered from an early setback through an 86-run partnership between Soumya Sarkar (42) and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (41). Towhid Hridoy then held the innings together with a composed unbeaten 40, steering the hosts to 195/5 with six overs to spare and ensuring there would be no late Australian fightback.
The victory sealed an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series and delivered a landmark achievement for Bangladesh
Australia 187 for 8 (Labuschagne 55*, Bartlett 52, Mustafizur 3-27, Taskin 3-33) lost to Bangladesh (Sarkar 42, Shanto 42, Hridoy 40 not out) by 5 wickets.
