Late Carey blast leads to Aussie win over Proteas: 3rd ODI (Potchefstroom)

Australia avoided a series whitewash with a 45-run DLS victory over South Africa in the third ODI at JB Marks Oval, Potchefstroom.

Batting first, Australia posted an imposing 322/9, with Alex Carey top-scoring with 74 off 88 balls and captain Mitchell Marsh contributing a brisk 56 from 42 deliveries. Oliver Peake added a valuable 48, while Corbin Bosch led South Africa’s bowling attack with an impressive 4/62.

South Africa’s rain-affected chase was reduced to 28 overs, and the hosts had reached 145/4 when further rain brought the match to an end. Despite the defeat, South Africa won the series 2–1.

Carey was named Player of the Match, while Keshav Maharaj received the Player of the Series award.

Australia 322 for 9 (Carey 74, Marsh 56, Bosch 4-60) beat South Africa 145 for 4 (Rickelton 71*, Bartlett 2-25, Zampa 2-34) by 45 runs (DLS).
