1985: Gower leads England to win, Aussies hit by rebels

David Gower's England team was strengthened by the return of Gooch and Emburey after serving their ban for the South African rebel tour as well as the emergence at international level of Tim Robinson and Mike Gatting.

Australia now captained by Allan Border had themselves been weakened by a rebel South African tour, with the loss of Terry Alderman being a particular factor.

England won the Ashes back with a 3–1 series win.
