Paceman Mohammad Asif took 4-41 to reduce the Kiwis to 147-8 a lead of 244 after the hosts had dismissed Pakistan for 332 with Shane Bond taking 5 wickets.

New Zealand's innings started with 2 wickets for no runs as Martin Guptill and Daniel Flynn were out for ducks.

Ross Taylor 59 steadied the ship until he was run out.
