Amla and Kallis setup Proteas: 1st Test, Day 1 (Gabba)

South Africa took a firm grip on the three-Test series opener after Australia let their chances slip, offering lives to both Hashim Amla (90 not out) and Jacques Kallis (84 not out) during their unbroken 136-run stand as the visitors closed on a strong 255/2.

Amla also shared in a 90-run second-wicket partnership with Alviro Petersen (64) as the Australians toiled in vain.
