Openers Alastair Cook (74 not out) and Nick Compton (34 not out) mixed defence as the tourists at least fared better following on, reaching 111-0, but are 219 short of making India bat again.

Earlier, the tourists were shot out for 191 as left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha took 5-45.
