A record second-wicket partnership between Cheteshwar Pujara (204) and Murali Vijay (167) had Australia facing a massive deficit of 266.

Australia had reached 74 for 2, needing a further 192 to avoid an innings defeat.

Australia 237 for 9 dec and 74 for 2 (Ashwin 2-42) trail India 503 (Pujara 204, Vijay 167, Maxwell 4-127) by 192 runs.
