SL spinners late strikes dent Aussies: 1st Test, Day 4 (Kandy)

Rangana Herath struck early and debutant spinner Lakshan Sandakan made opener Joe Burns look silly to have Australia struggling at 83-3 chasing an uphill 268 for victory after play was called off early.

Earlier it was Kusal Mendis' superb maiden century (176) that helped Sri Lanka seize control as the tail wagged strongly to set an imposing target of 268.

Australia 203 and 83 for 3 (Smith 26*, Voges 9*) need another 185 runs to beat Sri Lanka 117 and 353 (Mendis 176, Starc 4-84).
