Bold Du Plessis century revives South Africa: 3rd Test, Day 1 (Adelaide)

A defiant century from skipper Faf du Plessis enabled South Africa to make a surprise declaration late in the day on 259-9.

Du Plessis‚ who has been fined for ball-tampering during the 2nd Test, was booed when he made his appearance but his 118 not out silenced the crowd.

Du Plessis then made a surprise declaration that caught the Australians off guard as David Warner was unable to open the batting because he had been off the field for a shoulder injury.

Australia 0 for 14 trail South Africa 9 for 259 dec (Du Plessis 118*, Hazlewood 4-68) by 245 runs.
