Match Fixing scandal: Sharjeel and other Pakistani stars suspended

Pakistan’s two opening batsmen Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended after being caught for match fixing. They were playing for Islamabad United in the Pakistan Super League T20 competition in Dubai.

"Sharjeel Khan and Khalid Latif have been suspended and the rigorous and wide-ranging investigation by the PCB supported by the ICC will continue as part of collective efforts to protect the integrity of the sport," the PCB said.

Other current Pakistani stars Mohammad Irfan was questioned along with Zulfiqar Babar and Shahzaib Hasan in a growing scandal. Shahzaib Hasan, belonging to Karachi Kings captained by Kumar Sangakkara, was called off from the field and investigated.

Data from the players mobile phone was also extracted to investigate the allegations. The investigation has expanded to include Quetta Gladiators’ Zulfiqar Babar as well, and reports stated that in total, five players were currently being investigated for allegedly being involved in the incident.
