England level series as Stewart retires: 5th Test (Oval)

Marcus Trescothick was the hero with 219 and 69 not out as England won by 9 wickets to level the series 2-2.

South Africa posted 484 as Gibbs made 183. The were bundled out for 229 in their second innings as Bicknell (4-84) and Harmison (4-33) bowled with fire to press for victory.

Earlier, England racked up 604-9 decl after Trescothick's double ton was supported by Thorpe (124) and Flintoff (95).

Alec Stewart retired after 133 Test matches on his home ground.
