Mathews, Thirimanne edge SL ahead: 1st Test, Day 3 ( Kolkata)

Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews both scored fifties to steer Sri Lanka to a commanding position.

Mathews (52) and Lahiru Thirimanne (51) put on 99 to take Sri Lanka to 165 for four.

Earlier, India’s first innings score ended on 172 after Pujara (52) and the tail wagged strongly.

Sri Lanka 165 for 4 (Mathews 52, Thirimanne 51, Dickwella 14*, Chandimal 13*) trail India 172 (Pujara 52, Lakmal 4-26) by 7 runs.
