Careers on the line: Root shrugs off manic Lyon sledge (Gabba)

England skipper Joe Root said Australia were only putting pressure on themselves after provocative comments from spinner Nathan Lyon.

The usually mild mannered Lyon boasted that Australia hoped to end some of the tourists’ careers.

David Warner remained in doubt for the 1st Test as he battles to recover from a neck strain and Shaun Marsh suffered a back strain at training. Glenn Maxwell was called in as a replacement.

Ian Botham, Allan Border, Brendon Julian, Brett Lee and Mark Waugh preview the 1st Test.
