Banned Steve Smith breaks down in tears at media conference

After landing in Sydney, Steve Smith broke down in tears as he spoke for the first time since being banned for 12 months for cheating in the Ball Tampering scandal.

A distraught Smith told the media that “I will regret this for the rest of my life. I’m absolutely gutted. I hope in time I can earn back respect and forgiveness. “

Cameron Bancroft landed in Perth after being kicked off the tour for ball tampering. Bancroft was handed a nine-month ban for ball tampering in the third Test in Cape Town. He admitted to lying earlier when stating he had used tape instead of sandpaper to rough up the ball at an earlier media conference.

David Warner was also handed a one-year ban and has not yet arrived in Australia.
