2006: Jayasuriya and Tharanga break world record with 286 run stand (Leeds)

In a devastating display of hitting at the top of the order, Sanath Jayasuriya and Upul Tharanga broke the world record for opening partnerships in ODIs.

They put together 286 runs off just 201 balls. Jayasuriya made 152 and Tharanga made 109 as Sri Lanka won by 8 wickets to whitewash England 5-0.

Note: This record was broken in 2018 by Imam Ul Haq and Fakhar Zaman who put on 304 for Pakistan against Zimbabwe.
