1980: Colin Croft deliberately knocks into Umpire Goodall (Christchurch)

After losing the 1st Test in Dunedin in controversial circumstances, the West Indies had almost withdrawn from the NZ tour.

In the 2nd Test at Christchurch, one of the most disgraceful acts in Test cricket took place.

Richard Hadlee hooked a bouncer and missed. Colin Croft, repeatedly jeered by the crowd, appealed — somewhat belatedly — for a catch at the wicket. Umpire Fred Goodall turned it down.

Croft reacted with a barrage of four letter words aimed at Goodall. Croft then deliberately ran into Goodall. The umpire was obviously not impressed and along with colleague Steve Woodward, walked down to have a word with Lloyd.

1980.
