2008 IND v ENG Test series


On 25 June 1932, India started its journey in international Cricket as a Test-playing nation, making its debut against England at Lord's. The series is fought over two trophies: 

Anthony de Mello Trophy:
This trophy was awarded for the Test series played between India and England when the series is held in India.
 
Pataudi Trophy:
This trophy was awarded when the Test series between India and England is played in England.
 
In June 2025, the ECB and BCCI decided to award the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy to the winning team.
 
 
2008 IND v ENG Test series

Kevin Pietersen led England on this 3 Test tour of India from 11–23 December 2008. M S Dhoni's Indians won the series 1–0

The 3 Test series was reduced to 2 after the Mumbai terror attacks. After the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, the tour was nearly canceled. England returned to India after initial hesitation, showing sporting solidarity. The first Test was moved from Ahmedabad to Chennai for security reasons.

The Top Performers were:

India

  • Gautam Gambhir: 361 runs
  • Sachin Tendulkar: 163 runs
  • Zaheer Khan & Harbhajan Singh: 8 wickets each
  • Virender Sehwag: Match-winning 83 off 68 balls in Chennai

England

  • Andrew Strauss: 252 runs (2 centuries in Chennai)
  • Kevin Pietersen: 154 runs (including a fighting 144 in Mohali)
  • Graeme Swann: Made Test debut, took wickets in both games
