Named after Maharaja Yadavindra Singh, the last ruling Maharaja of Patiala, the stadium symbolizes Punjab’s rich cricketing heritage and modern infrastructure push to host international and franchise cricket in the region.
The stadium’s first international fixtures came in September 2025, when it hosted Women’s One Day Internationals (ODIs) between India and Australia, marking its debut as an international venue. On 11 December 2025, the ground hosted its first men’s international match, a T20I between India and South Africa, further establishing Mullanpur on the global cricket map.
