Michael Vandort was a tall, elegant left-handed opening batsman.
Born on January 19, 1980, in Colombo, he represented Sri Lanka in 20 Test matches and 1 ODI between 2001 and 2008.
Vandort was known for his solid technique and composure at the crease, particularly effective against pace bowling.
He scored 1,144 runs in Tests at an average of 36.90, including four centuries and four fifties, with a highest score of 140 against Bangladesh in 2007. Though he never cemented a long-term place due to competition from established openers, Vandort produced several memorable innings, notably his composed 82 against Australia in Hobart in 2007 and a fighting century against England at Galle.
After ending his international career in 2008, he continued to contribute to domestic cricket for a few seasons before shifting his focus toward coaching and mentoring young players in Sri Lanka.
