
Philippus Jeremia Rudolf (“Rudi”) Steyn (born 30 June 1967 in Kimberley, Cape Province) featured in three Test matches and one One Day International, all in 1995 .
A right‑handed batsman and occasional right‑arm medium‑pace bowler who could also keep wicket, Steyn made his Test debut against New Zealand on 2 January 1995 in Cape Town, opening the batting alongside Gary Kirsten. He added a solid opening stand of 106, scoring 38 off 126 balls in his debut innings. His highest Test score of 46, off a marathon 193 deliveries in Auckland, came in his final Test from 4–8 March 1995 .
In Test cricket, he scored 127 runs from 6 innings at an average of 21.16, without registering any 50s, and struck at just 26.84.
His sole ODI appearance came on 22 October 1995 against Zimbabwe in Harare, where he scored 4 runs off 14 balls for an average of 4.00 and strike rate of 28.57 . He recorded no catches or stumpings in internationals.
Despite a brief international stint, Steyn had a long domestic career spanning 129 first‑class and 157 List A matches, scoring 6,858 and 3,941 runs respectively, with 11 first‑class centuries and a top score of 188* in FC .
After retiring, he co‑ran the Sportweni Sports Academy, where he coaches young cricketers alongside ex‑international Corrie van Zyl .
