Mick Malone was an Australian fast bowler who played briefly at international level during the 1970s.
Born on 24 July 1950 in Perth, Western Australia, Malone was known for his lively pace and ability to extract bounce from Australian pitches.
He represented Australia in one Test match, against England at The Oval in 1977, where he took 5 wickets for 63 runs in the first innings — a remarkable debut performance. Despite this success, he never played another Test.
In three One Day Internationals, he claimed 4 wickets at an average of 40.25, with best figures of 2 for 43.
Domestically, Malone was a consistent performer for Western Australia, taking over 200 first-class wickets at an average in the low 20s. His strong performances contributed to Western Australia’s dominance in the Sheffield Shield during the 1970s.
Though his international career was short, Malone remains remembered as a talented quick who made an immediate impact in his solitary Test appearance.
