
Richard Martin “Prof” Edwards, born on June 3, 1940, in Garden Gap, Worthing, Christ Church, Barbados.
He is a former West Indian cricketer known for his right-arm fast bowling.
He played five Test matches for the West Indies during the 1968–69 tour of Australia and New Zealand.
Edwards holds the record for the most runs conceded off a single eight-ball over in first-class cricket, leaking 34 runs (sequence: 4, 0, 4, 4, 6, 6, 6, 4) against the Governor-General’s XI in Auckland during the 1968–69 tour.
Edwards made his Test debut against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 26, 1968, and played his final Test against New Zealand in Christchurch on March 13, 1969 . In his five Test appearances, he took 18 wickets at an average of 34.77, with best innings figures of 5 for 84 .
After retirement, Edwards worked as the groundsman at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown.
