George Dickinson was a fast bowler and rugby player who played 3 Test matches for New Zealand. Born in Dunedin and educated at Otago Boys' High School, Dickinson played in the First XV as a five-eighth for four years. He was just 19 when he was whisked into the South Island team and then chosen for the All Black tour of Australia, before he had even played for Otago.
Dickinson became the first so-called "double All Black" when he represented New Zealand at cricket against Victoria in the 1924/25 season. He played a match against Australia in 1927/28, then in New Zealand's first two Tests, against England in 1929-30, and a final Test against South Africa in 1931/32. He took 8 wickets in his three Tests.
Dickinson died aged 75 on 17 March 1978.
