Usman Kahawaja was born on 18 Dec 1986 in Islamabad. He moved to Australia when he was a young boy and grew up in Sydney's western surburbs. He is a left handed batsman who made his first class debut for NSW in 2008. He became the first muslim to play for Australia when he made his Test debut against England in Sydney in 2011.
After being discarded, he was brought back for his ODI debut against Sri Lanka at the MCG in 2013.
Khawaja had a golden run during the 2015/16 season. He scored heavily in both the domestic Big Bash T20 league as well as in the dual Test series against New Zealand and the West Indies. This all changed quickly when Khawaja was dropped again after poor form and a 3-0 series white wash in Sri Lanka. He fought his way back to reckoning with a fighting century against South Africa in the 3rd Test in Adelaide in Nov 2016.
