Player profile:
Bailey, George J

George Bailey was born in Launceston, TAS on 7 Sept 1982. He was a right hand batsman and right arm medium pacer.

Bailey made his first class debut in 2004 and served a long tenure knocking on the door of Australian selection before finally being named as captain of the national T20 team following the sacking of Cameron White in Jan 2012.

He played a crucial role in Australia’s 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup-winning squad, providing stability and experience in the batting lineup.

In the IPL, Bailey enjoyed success with Chennai Super Kings and captained Kings XI Punjab, guiding them to the 2014 IPL final, their best finish at the time.

Known for his unorthodox yet effective batting style, Bailey was respected for his tactical acumen, composure under pressure, and ability to rotate strike. After retiring from playing in 2020, he transitioned into cricket administration and is currently a key figure in Australian selection.
