Kruger van Wyk was born on 7 Feb 1980 in Wolmaranstaad in South Africa. After making his first class debut for Northerns in 2001, he migrated to NZ after not getting adequate opportunities ahead of Mark Boucher as the wicketkeeper. He made his test debut for NZ against his former countrymen in the 1st Test at Dunedin in 2012.
