Player profile:
Sheahan, Andrew Paul

Paul Sheahan (born 30 September 1946, Victoria) was a stylish right-handed batsman who played 31 Test matches for Australia between 1967 and 1973, scoring 1,592 runs at an average of 33.16, with 2 centuries and 10 fifties.

A graceful stroke-maker noted for his elegant cover drive and calm temperament, Sheahan was often used as a stabilising presence in Australia’s top and middle order during a transitional period for the team.

He toured India, South Africa, and England, contributing key innings such as his highest Test score of 127 against New Zealand at Auckland in 1970. Though his international career ended relatively early—he retired from Test cricket at just 27—Sheahan was respected for his sportsmanship and intellect.

After retering from first-class cricket, he forged a distinguished career in education, becoming a headmaster at two leading Melbourne schools, and remained a prominent figure in cricket administration and commentary circles.
