
Jonathan Agnew, widely known as “Aggers”, is a former England fast bowler and one of the most iconic voices in cricket broadcasting.
Born on 4 April 1960 in Macclesfield, England, he played county cricket for Leicestershire, taking 666 first-class wickets, and represented England in three Tests and three ODIs during the mid-1980s.
After retiring from playing, Agnew transitioned into journalism and became a central figure on BBC Radio’s Test Match Special from 1991, later serving for over three decades as the BBC’s Chief Cricket Correspondent. Renowned for his warm, witty and evocative commentary style, he has helped define radio cricket for generations, earning numerous broadcasting awards and an MBE in 2017 for services to sports broadcasting.
