
Born on July 12, 2000, in Epsom, Surrey, Jamie Smith was inspired by the 2005 Ashes series to take up cricket. He began playing at Sutton Cricket Club and joined Surrey’s development program by age nine. Educated at Whitgift School on a cricket scholarship, he was scoring centuries and keeping wicket by age 12. Smith also played football for AFC Wimbledon until he was 15.
Smith made his first-class debut for Surrey in 2019 and quickly established himself as a reliable middle-order batter and wicketkeeper. He has also played for Birmingham Phoenix and London Spirit in The Hundred.
He made his Test Debut on July 10, 2024, against West Indies and his ODI Debut on September 23, 2023, against Ireland.
Smith was named one of the 2025 Wisden Cricketers of the Year, recognizing his impact on the English cricket season.
