Ben Stokes on trial for assault, misses Lords Test

England allrounder Ben Stokes mocked a gay man and threw a cigarette butt at his head before knocking two men unconscious in an fight outside a nightclub in Bristol, a jury heard.

Stokes is accused of punching Ryan Hale, 27, to the ground and then of knocking out Ryan Ali, 28, a short time later.

Evidence was presented in court stating that Stokes left one of his victims with a fractured eye socket in the altercation that took place on 25 September 2017.

Due to this charge, Stokes missed the 2017/18 Ashes series in Australia. He will also step down from the 2nd Test against India at Lords after his match winning bowling spell in the 1st Test.
