Nasser: Jacob Bethell selection for 1st Test is a gamble (Christchurch)

Jacob Bethell will make his Test debut in the No 3 slot in New Zealand. Nasser Hussain says that this selection is a gamble.

The changes were forced upon England after keeper Jordan Cox broke his thumb resulting in Ollie Pope slipping down the order to take the gloves.

Bethell has never batted at three in a brief first-class career comprising only 20 matches, while he averages only 25.44. He is yet to score a first class century; the last batsman to make his Test debut for England without a first class hundred was Mike Gatting.
