Latham, Santner bolster NZ after mid innings collapse: 3rd Test, Day 1 (Hamilton)

Honours were even after a hard fought battle between NZ and England on day 1 at Hamilton.

Openers Tom Latham (63) and Will Young (42) put on 105 for the opening stand, having been asked to bat. NZ then collapsed from 172-2 to 231-7. Matthew Potts (3-75) impressed by removing top-scorer Latham and danger man Kane Williamson (44) to celebrate his recall.

Mitchell Santner smashed a quick 50* off 54 balls to restore the bounce. His partnership with the retiring Tim Southee (23 off 10 balls) helped the Kiwis reach 315/9 at stumps.

New Zealand 315 for 9 (Latham 63, Santner 50*, Atkinson 3-55, Potts 3-75) vs England.
