Kusal Mendis, spinners destroy Aussies for record win: 2nd ODI (RPS)

Australia suffered its worst ever ODI defeat to Sri Lanka as they were thrashed by 174 runs in the 2nd ODI in Colombo.

Sri Lanka dominated with Kusal Mendis making 101 from 115 balls after the home side won the toss and batted. Skipper Charith Asalanka’s stroked an unbeaten 78 from 66 balls as Sri Lanka finished their innings strongly on 282-4.

In reply, Steve Smith top scored with 29 as Asitha Fernando (3-23) inflicting the early damage. The SL spinners Dunith Wellalage (4-35) and Wanindu Hasaranga (3-23) went to work and Australia collapsed to 107 all out in 24.2 overs.

Sri Lanka won the ODI series 2-0.

Sri Lanka 281 for 4 (Kusal 101, Asalanka 78*, Madushka 51, Abbott 1-41) beat Australia 107 (Smith 29, Wellalage 4-35, Hasaranga 3-23, Asitha 3-23) by 174 runs.
