1926: Macartney has England in pain after Carr gets it wrong: 3rd Test (Leeds)

England captain Arthur Carr put Australia in to bat at Headingley in a costly decision.

Charlie McCartney was dropped early by Carr and then smashed a century before lunch. He struck 151 as Australia posted 494. Bill Woodfull and Arthur Richardson also scored centuries.

In reply, England could only manage 294, mainly thanks to a late burst from George Macaulay (76). Grimmett took 5-88.

In their second innings, Hobbs and Sutcliffe put on a century stand for the first wicket and England hung on for a draw.

July 1926.
