South Africa win as Markram classic dethrones Australia: WTC Final Day 4 (Lords)

Aiden Markram was the hero as South Africa beat Australia by five wickets in the World Test Championship final to end their long wait for a major global title and throw off the perpetual tag of “chokers”.

South Africa resuming at 212-2, defied the feared Aussie attack and won by 5 wickets chasing down a steep target of 282.

Markram received the player of the match trophy for his magnificent century.

South Africa 138 and 282-5 (Markram 136, Bavuma 66, Starc 3-66) beat Australia 212 and 207 (Starc 58, Carey 43, Rabada 4-59, Ngidi 3-38) by 5 wickets.
