Rookie Tanvir spins out Sri Lanka in narrow win: 2nd ODI (RPS)

Spinner Tanvir Islam was the star as Bangladesh bounced back from their 77-run defeat in the opening match with a hard-fought 16-run victory over Sri Lanka in the 2nd ODI in Colombo.

Parveez Hossain Emon (67) and Towhid Hridoy (51) and a late burst from Sakib (31 off 21) helped Bangladesh get to 248 all-out in 45.5 overs. Asitha Fernando and Wanindu Hasaranga took four and three wickets each, respectively.

Kusal Mendis produced a venue-record fastest fifty off just 20 balls but the rest of the Sri Lankan middle order batting collapsed in suspicious circumstances. Liyanage stroked 78 in a lone effort to chase down the target. Playing only his 2nd ODI, Tanvir spun his magic to take 5-39.

Bangladesh 248 (Emon 67, Hridoy 51, Asitha 4-35, Hasaranga 3-60) beat Sri Lanka 232 (Liyanage 78, Kusal Mendis 56, Tanvir 5-39) by 16 runs.
