Mulder hits epic triple, declares in sight of Lara record (Bulawayo)

Stand in skipper Wiaan Mulder scored an unbeaten 367 against Zimbabwe before declaring 33 runs shy of Brian Lara’s Test record innings of 400.

27-year-old Mulder smashed 49 fours and four sixes on his way to the fifth-highest score in Test history, before selflessly declaring at lunch on Day 2.

He was just 33 runs away from Brian Lara’s historic 400 not out all the way back in 2004 against England.

Mulder explained his decision by saying “I thought we had enough and we need to bowl. Secondly, Brian Lara is a legend, let’s be real. He got 401, or whatever it was, against England. For someone of that stature to keep that record is pretty special.
