Pant injury blow as Sudharsan anchors India: 4th Test, Day 1 (Manchester)

England have a slight edge over India as Sai Sudharsan fell late on an absorbing opening day at Old Trafford.

India were inserted by Ben Stokes under overcast skies and got off to a solid start, with openers KL Rahul (46) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (58) compiling a strong 78-run stand before lunch.

England fought back in the afternoon session when Chris Woakes removed Rahul and later KL Rahul, while returning spinner Liam Dawson claimed Jaiswal for 58.

Sai Sudharsan then anchored the innings with a composed 61, ably supported by Rishabh Pant (37) until tragedy struck—Pant was hit on the foot attempting a reverse sweep off Woakes and had to retire hurt on 37, limping off in discomfort .

India 264 for 4 (Sai Sudharsan 61, Jaiswal 58, Stokes 2-47) vs England.
