Root breaks records, England apply blowtorch on India: 4th Test, Day 3 (Manchester)

Joe Root struck a sublime century to give England complete control over India after day three of the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

Root compiled a masterful 150, marking his 38th Test century. In doing so, he surpassed legends Ponting, Kallis, and Dravid, ascending to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test history, trailing only Sachin Tendulkar . Additionally, he became the first cricketer to score over 1,000 Test runs at Old Trafford .

Washington Sundar was belatedly introduced in the 69th over and he made the breakthrough after lunch dismissing Pope and Brook.

England 544 for 7 (Root 150, Stokes 77*, Washington 2-57, Jadeja 2-117) lead India 358 by 186 runs.
