NZ dominate England after Conway, Ravindra blast: 2023 World Cup No 1 (Ahmedabad)

In the opening match of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, England batted first and posted a total of 282/9 in their 50 overs. Joe Root top-scored with 77, supported by Jos Buttler’s 43, but New Zealand bowlers Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner made crucial breakthroughs to keep England under check.

Chasing 283, New Zealand dominated from the start, reaching the target in just 36.2 overs with only one wicket down. Devon Conway starred with a masterful 152* off 121 balls, while Rachin Ravindra contributed 123* off 96 balls. Their unbroken second-wicket partnership of 273 runs set a new record for New Zealand’s highest ODI partnership.

Rachin Ravindra was named Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance, which included key contributions with both bat and ball. The emphatic victory showcased New Zealand’s depth and balance, setting a strong tone for their World Cup campaign while leaving England to reassess their approach.

New Zealand 283 for 1 (Conway 152*, Ravindra 123*) beat England 282 for 9 (Root 77, Henry 3-48, Santner 2-37) by nine wickets
