Tagenarine Chanderpaul strokes maiden double hundred against Zimbabwe (Bulawayo)

Opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul’s maiden Test double-century came against Zimbabwe in the first Test at Bulawayo in February 2023, marking a major milestone early in his international career.

Opening the innings with Kraigg Brathwaite, Chanderpaul compiled a patient and composed 207 not out from 467 balls, striking 16 fours and 3 sixes.

The pair put on a record-breaking 336-run partnership for the first wicket—the highest ever by a West Indian opening pair—surpassing the long-standing mark set by Gordon Greenidge and Desmond Haynes.

Chanderpaul’s innings was a model of discipline and concentration, blending solid defence with selective aggression, and it also eclipsed his father Shivnarine’s highest Test score of 203. His effort guided the West Indies to a commanding 447 for 6 declare.
