Harry Brook and Phil Salt laid the foundation as England crushed New Zealand by 65 runs in the second T20 international at Hagley Oval, Christchurch, to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first, England piled up a massive 236 for 4, built on a blazing 85 from Salt and a rapid 78 off 35 balls by Brook, whose partnership tore apart the Kiwi attack.
In reply, New Zealand’s chase faltered early and never recovered, bowled out for 171 in 18 overs despite brief resistance from Tim Seifert (39) and Mitchell Santner (36). Adil Rashid led England’s bowling with 4 for 32 as the visitors combined sharp fielding with disciplined spin to dominate throughout.
With the first match washed out, England now hold the upper hand heading into the final game of the series.
England 236 for 4 (Salt 85, Brook 78) beat New Zealand 171 (Santner 36, Rashid 4-32) by 65 runs.
