Returning Tickner’s burst enables NZ win over England: 2nd ODI (Hamilton)

Paceman Blair Tickner had a memorable return to the national side as New Zealand defeated England by five wickets in the second ODI at Seddon Park, Hamilton, to take an unassailable 2–0 lead in the three-match series.

After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, New Zealand’s attack—led by late replacement Tickner, who claimed 4 for 34—restricted England to just 175 in 35 overs. Harry Brook (34) and Jamie Overton (42 off 28) provided brief resistance, but regular wickets prevented any substantial partnerships.

In reply, New Zealand’s chase was anchored by Daryl Mitchell’s unbeaten 56 and Rachin Ravindra’s fluent 54, while Mitchell Santner added a brisk 34* to finish the job in 33.1 overs. The hosts’ composed batting and disciplined bowling sealed a convincing victory, highlighting England’s continued struggles with both bat and ball in the series.

New Zealand 177 for 5 (Mitchell 56*, Ravindra 54, Santner 34*, Archer 3-23) beat England 175 (Overton 42, Brook 34, Tickner 4-34, Smith 2-27) by five wickets.
