Skipper Suryakumar Yadav showed signs of being at his fluent best as the first T20I between India and Australia at Manuka Oval ended in disappointment as heavy rain forced the match to be abandoned with no result.
After being asked to bat first, India made a brisk start, reaching 97 for 1 in 9.4 overs before the weather intervened. Shubman Gill looked in fine touch with 37 off 20 balls, while Suryakumar continued his aggressive form, smashing 39 off 24.
Abhishek Sharma added a quick 19 before falling to Nathan Ellis, who claimed the only wicket to fall. Australia’s bowlers struggled for control on a lively pitch before rain ended any hopes of a full contest.
With the washout, the three-match series remains level at 0–0.
India 97 for 1 (Suryakumar 39*, Gill 37*, Ellis 1-25) vs Australia - No Result.
