Mitchell, Conway centuries dominate England: 1st ODI (Cardiff)

New Zealand produced a dominant chase to win the 1st ODI at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff on 8 September 2023.

England posted 291/6 from their 50 overs after being sent in, with Dawid Malan (54), Jos Buttler (72 off 68) and Liam Livingstone (52* off 40) the main scorers, while Rachin Ravindra led NZ’s attack with 3/48.

In reply, New Zealand were briefly 117/2, before Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell completely took control – putting on an unbeaten 180-run stand.

Conway struck a classy 111 off 121 balls* and Mitchell blasted 118 off 91* (7 fours, 7 sixes) as NZ reached 297/2 in 45.4 overs, sealing an emphatic 8-wicket victory and a 1-0 series lead.
