Jacob Duffy shone with the ball as New Zealand took firm control on Day 2 of the 1st Test against West Indies in Christchurch, bowling the visitors out for 167 to secure a sizeable first-innings lead.
Duffy was outstanding, claiming his maiden Test five-wicket haul and running through the West Indies lower order after Shai Hope (56) and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (52) had briefly revived the innings with a gritty third-wicket stand.
Once they fell, the rest of the batting crumbled quickly.
New Zealand’s openers then negotiated seven overs safely to reach 32/0, stretching the overall lead to 96 by stumps. With all wickets intact and conditions easing, the hosts head into Day 3 in a dominant position and poised to press for a match-defining advantage.
New Zealand 231 (Williamson 52, Bracwell 47, Shields 2-34, Greaves 2-35) and 32 for 0 (Conway 15*, Latham 14*) lead West Indies 167 (Hope 56, Chanderpaul 52, Duffy 5-34, Henry 3-43) by 96 runs.
