Samson mows down Windies, India in semis: T20 World Cup S8 No 52 (Eden Gardens)

India secured a semi-final showdown with England after a nervous five-wicket victory over West Indies thanks to Sanju Samson's unbeaten 97.

West Indies posted a competitive 195/4 in 20 overs, built around Roston Chase’s 40 and Shai Hope’s 32, before late acceleration lifted them close to the 200 mark. India’s bowlers struggled to fully contain the scoring in the final five overs, allowing the Windies to set a demanding target on a good batting surface.

In reply, India chased down 196, finishing on 199/5 in 19.2 overs to win by 5 wickets. Sanju Samson starred with a superb 97 off 50 balls*, anchoring the innings and guiding the chase with composure under pressure. The victory, sealed with four balls to spare, confirmed India’s strong position heading into the knockout stage.

India 199 for 5 (Samson 97*, Tilak 27, Holder 2-38) beat West Indies 195 for 4 (Chase 40, Holder 37*, Bumrah 2-36) by five wickets.
