Abbas and Awais lead strong Pakistan response: 1st Test, Day 2 (Mirpur)

Paceman Mohammad Abbas took 5-92 to pull back Bangladesh in Mirpur on Day 2.

Bangladesh finished their first innings with 413 all out after resuming in a strong overnight position. Mushfiqur Rahim (71) and the lower order added valuable runs to push the total beyond 400. Pakistan’s bowlers found only occasional success on a surface that became increasingly good for batting as the day progressed until Abbas struck late in the innings.

Pakistan responded confidently, reaching 179/1 at stumps to trim the deficit to 234 runs. Debutant opener Azan Awais impressed with an unbeaten 85, anchoring a composed reply after Bangladesh’s dominant first innings. With Pakistan still well behind but batting comfortably, the match remains intriguingly poised heading into Day 3.

Pakistan 179 for 1 (Awais 85*, Imam 45, Mehidy 1-37) trail Bangladesh 413 (Shanto 101, Mominul 91, Mushfiqur 71, Abbas 5-92) by 234 runs.
