Teen debutant Sooryavanshi made his entry as England took a 1-0 lead in the five-match T20I series with a thrilling four-wicket victory over India at Old Trafford, chasing down 191 with an over to spare.
India posted 190/7, fueled by Ishan Kishan’s 49, Abhishek Sharma’s 43, and a solid 37 from captain Shreyas Iyer. The match also featured a historic international debut for 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who entertained with two sixes in a brisk 10-ball 14 before being stumped.
Sam Curran was the pick of the England bowlers, claiming 3/33.
England’s chase started disastrously when Arshdeep Singh removed both openers for ducks in the opening over. However, Jacob Bethell anchored a superb recovery with an unbeaten 76 off 46 balls.
Harry Brook’s explosive 39 from just 15 deliveries swung the momentum before Bethell capitalized on a costly 17th over from Ravi Bishnoi—which leaked 29 runs—to steer England to 191/6 in 19 overs.
With the opening match abandoned due to rain, the series is now beautifully poised at 1-1.
England 191 for 6 (Bethell 76*, Brook 39, Arshdeep 3-40) beat India 190 for 7 (Kishan 49, Abhishek 43, Curran 3-33) by four wickets.
